Senior Companion Program The Senior Companion Program is a volunteer service in which healthy seniors age 60 & older help other seniors live independently. The Companions: * Assist with daily tasks necessary to maintain independence * Help with grocery shopping * Provide short periods of relief for primary care givers * Alert doctors & family members to potential health problems * Helping hand to make sure client takes medicine * Friendship that can last a lifetime The service is FREE to the client. For their volunteer service, Senior Companions receive bi-weekly a tax-free hourly stipend and mileage reimbursement. The Companion also receives a paid annual health assessment. Without the help of the Senior Companion volunteers, many older adults would not be able to continue to live in their homes. Foster Grandparents The Foster Grandparents assist at our Head Start Centers. Grandparents assist the teacher in the classroom and can provide individual attention to many children in the areas of reading, communication, and self-help skills. Foster Grandparents: * Are 60 or older * Volunteer 20 hours a week * Receive bi-weekly tax-free stipend * Must meet eligibility guidelines For more resources click here to visit the Area for Aging website.
